Is a doctor performing the treatment, and can you meet the doctor before the procedure?
Injections are medical procedures; they require knowledge of facial anatomy, possible complications and how to manage them. Seeing the doctor who will perform the procedure in advance and asking them your questions is a natural part of the assessment.Is the procedure carried out in a licensed healthcare facility?
In Turkey, these matters are regulated by the Ministry of Health; the treatment must be performed by a doctor and in a licensed healthcare facility. A home, a hairdresser or a hotel room does not meet these conditions.Are the box, label and lot number of the product shown to you and recorded?
Seeing with your own eyes that a sealed, labelled product within its expiry date is used reduces the risk of a counterfeit product or one not stored under proper conditions. A record of the product name and lot number is necessary so that it is known which product was used if a problem arises later.Is written informed consent obtained?
Informed consent explains the purpose of the procedure, the expected result, possible side effects and complications, and the alternatives. You should be given time to read it and to ask about anything you do not understand before signing.If there is a complication, is there someone you can reach after the procedure, including at night and at weekends?
Some serious complications are noticed hours after the procedure, while you are at home, and time matters. Find out before the procedure, preferably in writing, whom you will contact and how.Are emergency medicines and equipment (e.g. an enzyme to dissolve hyaluronic acid filler) at hand?
Uncommon but urgent situations such as vascular occlusion or a severe allergic reaction require rapid intervention. Asking whether the necessary medicines and equipment are available at the clinic is a reasonable question.Are you given realistic expectations, and are you told “no” when necessary?
A good assessment states clearly what the procedure can and cannot do. A doctor who does not recommend a procedure you are not suitable for, or do not need, cares about your safety.Is pressure, a special offer or haste being used to push you into a decision?
Pressure such as “today only” or “last place left” does not fit a sound decision-making process. There should be time to think between the examination and the procedure.Is a follow-up appointment planned after the procedure?
A follow-up appointment is important for assessing the result and catching possible early problems. Who will do the follow-up and when is clear from the start.Are the procedure records (product details, treatment areas, consent) given to you?
Information on the product, amount and areas used helps the right decisions to be made if you later see another doctor or develop a side effect. Ask whether you can receive this information.
