70 Guillain-Barré patients over 10 years in Istanbul: the picture stayed similar before and after the pandemic
A study published in a journal and reviewed by independent scientists. Even so, a single study is not conclusive; it needs to be replicated.
At Ümraniye Training and Research Hospital, 70 adult patients seen from 2015–2025 were studied. The patients were divided into three groups: before the pandemic, during the pandemic and after it. The type of disease and nerve test findings were similar across the groups. Severity at presentation, however, was greater in the pre-pandemic group.
What does it mean for patients and families?
The pandemic does not appear to have changed the main features of the disease. This is a small, single-center study.
