In Adana, 6 new gene changes found in 10 children with genetically diagnosed HSP
A study published in a journal and reviewed by independent scientists. Even so, a single study is not conclusive; it needs to be replicated.
Children with HSP who had received a genetic diagnosis at a center in Adana were reviewed retrospectively. The study included 10 children. The team found six gene changes that had not been described before. For some genes, the first patients from Türkiye were also reported. Symptoms of the same disease can differ from child to child.
What does it mean for patients and families?
Many genes play a role in HSP, so broad genetic testing helps with diagnosis. This is a small study; genetic counseling is recommended for families.
