Obinutuzumab beta markedly reduced attacks in NMOSD in a phase 3 study
A study published in a journal and reviewed by independent scientists. Even so, a single study is not conclusive; it needs to be replicated.
A total of 91 patients with AQP4 antibodies took part in the study conducted in China. Patients received the drug or placebo. Over one year, 2 of 45 people in the drug group had an attack. In the placebo group, 21 of 46 people had an attack. Rates of serious side effects were similar in both groups.
What does it mean for patients and families?
This may be a new option for attacks in NMOSD. The study was conducted in one country with a limited number of patients. The drug is not approved in Türkiye.
