Small phase 2 trial of experimental AZP2006 in PSP in France: found to be safe
A study published in a journal and reviewed by independent scientists. Even so, a single study is not conclusive; it needs to be replicated.
At three centers in France, patients with PSP were given an experimental drug, AZP2006, or placebo. The study enrolled 36 patients, and 34 completed it. No serious drug-related side effects were seen. Trends toward slower disease progression were seen, but this is not a definitive result.
What does it mean for patients and families?
This is a small, 12-week early-stage study. Larger studies will show whether the drug works. The drug is not yet approved.
