91 Hirschsprung operations over 17 years in Ankara: most long-term problems resolved without surgery
A study published in a journal and reviewed by independent scientists. Even so, a single study is not conclusive; it needs to be replicated.
At a pediatric surgery center in Ankara, 91 patients with Hirschsprung disease were reviewed. The children were treated with the same surgical method, performed through the anus. No problems were seen during or immediately after surgery. Over an average follow-up of about 5.6 years, bowel inflammation occurred in 7 children. Most problems resolved with non-surgical treatment.
What does it mean for patients and families?
An experienced team and regular checkups can improve outcomes. This is a single-center study. Discuss the follow-up plan with your child's surgeon.
