Bursa study looks at how young people with CAH move from pediatric to adult doctors
A study published in a journal and reviewed by independent scientists. Even so, a single study is not conclusive; it needs to be replicated.
At Bursa Uludağ University, the move of 29 young people with CAH (congenital adrenal hyperplasia) from pediatric to adult doctors was studied. Of these, 20 moved through a planned transition program and 9 without a program. There was no difference between the two groups in staying in follow-up. Hormone levels and drug doses were also similar. Most of the young people stayed in adult follow-up.
What does it mean for patients and families?
The move from adolescence to adulthood is a time when follow-up can lapse. In this small study, there was no difference between the two approaches. Continuing regular check-ups is important.
