Garetosmab markedly reduced new bone formation in FOP in a phase 3 trial
A study published in a journal and reviewed by independent scientists. Even so, a single study is not conclusive; it needs to be replicated.
The trial included 63 adults from 16 countries. Once a month, patients received the drug or a placebo (inactive drug) through a vein. Over 56 weeks, there were 19 new sites of bone formation in the placebo group. One site was seen in the low-dose group and two in the high-dose group. Side effects that were specially monitored were most common at the high dose. There were no deaths.
What does it mean for patients and families?
This drug is not yet approved and has only been tested in adults. Access in Türkiye depends on TİTCK (Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency) and SGK (Social Security Institution) processes. Treatment decisions are made with your doctor.
