In CIDP, adding high-dose intravenous steroids to IVIg did not significantly improve recovery
A study published in a journal and reviewed by independent scientists. Even so, a single study is not conclusive; it needs to be replicated.
In a study conducted in Europe, patients with CIDP were given high-dose steroids or placebo along with IVIg. The study enrolled 77 patients. The study was stopped early after clotting problems occurred in four patients in the steroid group. At one year, the improvement rate was 38% in the steroid group and 28% in the placebo group. This difference was not statistically significant.
What does it mean for patients and families?
This result shows that giving the two treatments together does not provide a clear benefit. Be sure to talk with your neurologist before changing your treatment.
