Japan grants conditional approval to DMD gene therapy delandistrogene moxeparvovec
A decision by a medicines regulator (FDA, European Commission, etc.). The regulator has reviewed the clinical studies behind the drug. For accelerated or conditional approvals, the lasting benefit is still being confirmed.
Japan's Ministry of Health has conditionally approved delandistrogene moxeparvovec, for a limited time, for children with DMD. The approval covers ambulatory children aged 3–8 years. The children must not have certain antibody and gene deletion conditions. The approval is limited to a period of 3 years. Long-term efficacy and safety must be confirmed by post-approval studies. All treated patients must also be monitored.
What does it mean for patients and families?
This approval is valid only in Japan. It covers a narrow group of patients. Availability in Türkiye depends on TİTCK (Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency) and SGK (Social Security Institution) processes.
