EUNew treatments and approvals
Oral sebetralstat approved in the EU for hereditary angioedema attacks
A decision by a medicines regulator (FDA, European Commission, etc.). The regulator has reviewed the clinical studies behind the drug. For accelerated or conditional approvals, the lasting benefit is still being confirmed.
On September 17, 2025, the European Commission approved sebetralstat for hereditary angioedema attacks. The drug is for patients aged 12 years and older. One tablet is taken as soon as an attack starts. According to the European Medicines Agency, at the time of approval it was the first attack medicine taken by mouth. The most common side effect is headache.
What does it mean for patients and families?
There is now a tablet option instead of an injection for treating attacks. A tablet may make it easier to start treatment earlier. Access in Türkiye depends on TİTCK (Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency) and SGK (Social Security Institution) processes.
