Real-world data from 91 patients with Kennedy disease in Japan: leuprorelin slowed progression
A study published in a journal and reviewed by independent scientists. Even so, a single study is not conclusive; it needs to be replicated.
In Japan, the records of 91 genetically diagnosed patients with Kennedy disease were studied. Each patient's course before and after treatment was compared. With leuprorelin, the rate of loss of function decreased markedly. For example, the yearly loss in function score fell from about 0.5 to 0.2. The benefit appeared more pronounced in those who started early.
What does it mean for patients and families?
This provides real-world data on the long-term benefit of this treatment, which is approved in Japan. It is not a placebo-controlled study. Access in Türkiye for this use depends on TİTCK (Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency) and SGK (Social Security Institution) processes.
