95 adults with CVID in Konya: one third have a hormone gland disease
A study published in a journal and reviewed by independent scientists. Even so, a single study is not conclusive; it needs to be replicated.
A total of 95 adults with CVID followed in Konya were studied. 32 of the patients had at least one hormone gland disease. 12 of these were linked to cortisone treatment. The strongest risk factor was having an autoimmune disease. Changes in genes such as TNFRSF13B were found in some patients.
What does it mean for patients and families?
In adults with CVID, hormone problems such as thyroid disease and diabetes should also be monitored. This is a single-center study; broader data are needed.
