Model developed to predict 2-year relapse risk in ANCA-associated vasculitis
A study published in a journal and reviewed by independent scientists. Even so, a single study is not conclusive; it needs to be replicated.
Researchers re-examined the data from a large drug study. There were 649 people whose disease was in remission. In 100 of them, the disease flared up again within 2 years. Sex, the initial treatment drug and antibody type affected the risk. Kidney function and eye or mouth involvement were also taken into account. A risk calculation was made using this information.
What does it mean for patients and families?
This model may help identify which patients need more frequent monitoring. It has not yet been validated in other patients. Monitoring frequency and treatment are decided with a doctor.
