Bevacizumab in NF2: greater shrinkage seen in nerve tumors other than those of the hearing nerve
A study published in a journal and reviewed by independent scientists. Even so, a single study is not conclusive; it needs to be replicated.
In the USA, bevacizumab was given for two years to patients with NF2. This analysis looked at tumors of the brain's lining (meningiomas) and other nerve tumors. Of the nerve tumors, 42% shrank. For tumors of the brain's lining, this rate was only 13%. More than half of the tumors of the brain's lining grew.
What does it mean for patients and families?
The drug may not have the same effect on every tumor type. This is a small, retrospective analysis. Treatment decisions are made with the doctor.
