Intravenous dapirolizumab pegol reduced disease activity in lupus in a phase 3 trial
A study published in a journal and reviewed by independent scientists. Even so, a single study is not conclusive; it needs to be replicated.
The trial was conducted in 25 countries with 321 patients with moderate or severe lupus. In addition to their standard treatments, patients received the drug or placebo. After 48 weeks, 50% of the drug group responded. In the placebo group, this rate was 35%. Serious side effects were similarly frequent in both groups.
What does it mean for patients and families?
This drug is not yet approved. The results suggest it may offer a new treatment option. Do not change your current treatment without talking to your doctor.
