10 years of Trisomy 18 and 13 data in Istanbul: some children lived longer
A study published in a journal and reviewed by independent scientists. Even so, a single study is not conclusive; it needs to be replicated.
Istanbul's Zeynep Kamil Hospital retrospectively reviewed ten years of records. A total of 29 children diagnosed by genetic testing were included in the study. Of these, 23 had Trisomy 18 and 6 had Trisomy 13. The most common problem was in the heart. Most children survived the first months, but losses increased afterward. A small number of children lived longer.
What does it mean for patients and families?
In this disease, the course can vary from child to child. Care decisions should be made together with the family, based on the child. Protection against infection is very important.
