Long-term carglumic acid in methylmalonic and propionic acidemia: real-world data from Europe
A study published in a journal and reviewed by independent scientists. Even so, a single study is not conclusive; it needs to be replicated.
A total of 58 patients from 34 centers in seven European countries were followed. The patients had been using carglumic acid for a long time. In the 39 patients evaluated, the number of episodes decreased after treatment. Ammonia levels also fell. Hospital admissions and emergency visits decreased.
What does it mean for patients and families?
This is an interim analysis and there is no placebo group. Although the results look positive, they are not definitive evidence; treatment decisions are made with a metabolic disease specialist.
