Oral infigratinib increased growth rate in achondroplasia in a phase 3 trial
A study published in a journal and reviewed by independent scientists. Even so, a single study is not conclusive; it needs to be replicated.
The trial included 114 children aged 3 to 17 years, and for one year the children took the drug or an inactive pill once a day. In those on the drug, the annual growth rate increased by 1.74 cm more. No difference was seen in the ratio of trunk to leg length. Serious side effects were not found to be related to the drug.
What does it mean for patients and families?
This drug is not yet approved. Access in Türkiye depends on TİTCK (Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency) and SGK (Social Security Institution) processes. Longer follow-up is needed to know its long-term effects.
