First growth charts published for Smith-Magenis syndrome

Peer-reviewed publication

A study published in a journal and reviewed by independent scientists. Even so, a single study is not conclusive; it needs to be replicated.

Researchers in the USA prepared separate growth charts for children with Smith-Magenis syndrome. For this, about 6,000 measurements were collected from 190 patients. The charts were prepared for height, weight, and head circumference. Height and weight charts go up to age 15 and are separate for girls and boys.

What does it mean for patients and families?

These charts make it possible to compare a child's growth with other children who have the same syndrome. This may reduce unnecessary worry or overlooked problems. Your child's doctor does the assessment.
