Childhood glaucoma in Sturge-Weber syndrome: surgical results in 22 eyes from Türkiye
A study published in a journal and reviewed by independent scientists. Even so, a single study is not conclusive; it needs to be replicated.
Eye doctors from Türkiye and Egypt studied children with raised eye pressure due to Sturge-Weber syndrome. The study includes 22 eyes of 16 children. All underwent a surgery called GATT. Eye pressure fell by 38% on average. Pressure was controlled in eighteen eyes, with or without medication. Four eyes needed another operation.
What does it mean for patients and families?
This is a small study without a control group. Long-term results are not yet known. Eye pressure should be monitored regularly in these children.
