51 children of Turkish origin with CAPS living in Türkiye and Germany compared
A study published in a journal and reviewed by independent scientists. Even so, a single study is not conclusive; it needs to be replicated.
Led by Hacettepe University, children of Turkish origin with CAPS were studied in two countries. The study included 23 children living in Türkiye and 28 living in Germany. In the group in Türkiye, the disease was more severe and diagnosis came later. Most of these children reached an inactive phase with treatment. More than half of the group in Germany, however, was in an inactive phase without treatment.
What does it mean for patients and families?
Even in children with the same gene change, the disease can follow different courses; other factors, such as the environment, may play a role. Because most patients carried low-impact gene changes, the results cannot be generalized to every patient.
