Five LAM patients from Çanakkale: shortness of breath and cough are the most common symptoms
A study published in a journal and reviewed by independent scientists. Even so, a single study is not conclusive; it needs to be replicated.
Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University reported five patients diagnosed with LAM over the past two years. All patients were women aged between 40 and 54. The most common complaints were shortness of breath on exertion and cough. Lung CT scans of all patients showed many thin-walled cysts. In three patients, the diagnosis was made through a minor lung operation.
What does it mean for patients and families?
LAM should be considered in young or middle-aged women with shortness of breath. Early diagnosis allows treatment to start on time. With five patients, this is a small series.
