Survey on childhood Still's disease in Türkiye: no child was diagnosed at the first visit
A study published in a journal and reviewed by independent scientists. Even so, a single study is not conclusive; it needs to be replicated.
Led by Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa, a survey was conducted with families of children with Still's disease. In total, 39 children or their families took part in the survey. No child was diagnosed at the first visit, and one third first received a different diagnosis. Of the families, 90% had never heard of this disease until the moment of diagnosis. Of the 26 school-age children, 15 missed an average of 17.7 days of school a year because of the disease.
What does it mean for patients and families?
If prolonged fever, joint swelling and rash occur together, seeing a pediatric rheumatologist can speed up diagnosis. Families need more reliable information.
