187 CTEPH patients from 8 centers in Türkiye: other conditions often affect the surgery decision

Peer-reviewed publication

A study published in a journal and reviewed by independent scientists. Even so, a single study is not conclusive; it needs to be replicated.

The records of 187 CTEPH patients from eight specialist centers in Türkiye were reviewed. At least one additional condition was present in 90% of patients. Almost half had three or more additional conditions. Of patients who appeared suitable for surgery, 39% could not have surgery because of their other conditions. Having surgery stood out as a factor that reduced the risk of death.

What does it mean for patients and families?

In CTEPH, good monitoring of additional problems such as blood pressure, blood sugar, and kidney health appears to be important. The surgery decision is made separately for each patient at a specialist center. This is a retrospective study.
